VCBC, BPM CPA and Goodwin Law is pleased to present Crypto Currency 101 for the VC Back Office. Crypto Currency is a relatively new investment industry for most VCs. As a result, very few of us know exactly what it is and how it effects VC Back Offices.  BPM CPA and Goodwin Law will present and discuss the Crypto Currency basics as well as the various accounting and legal concerns and processes VC Back Offices need to know. Following the presentation there will be a Happy Hour sponsored by Costello and Sons a division of HUB International Insurance Services Inc.

Speaker Bios:

Dmitri Alexeev is a Director in BPM’s Corporate Tax Practice. He has over 19 years of public accounting experience with regional and national accounting firms. He’s worked with many public and private companies, including closely held businesses and startup companies, ranging in size from $1 million to over $100 billion in assets. He has extensive experience serving clients in financial services, life sciences, mobile gaming, services and technology industries.

Dmitri has extensive tax advisory and compliance experience with emphasis on financial and regulatory reporting, including corporate and partnership taxation, accounting methods and elections and state taxation. He also has broad experience in ASC 740, income taxes, and significant experience with federal and California tax controversy.

With focus on exceptional client service, he has worked closely with attorneys, investment bankers, valuation, as well as other professionals.

Mitzi Chang, a partner in Goodwin’s Technology Companies, Life Sciences, and Digital Currency & Blockchain Technology practices, focuses on corporate and securities law, representing public and private companies, venture capital and private equity firms and investment banks in capital markets transactions, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings, SEC reporting and other general corporate and securities matters. Ms. Chang advises companies through every stage of the corporate life cycle – from initial financing through successful initial public offering or acquisition. Ms. Chang also advises blockchain and digital currency companies and venture funds with respect to digital token sales and related securities law and regulatory matters. Prior to joining Goodwin, Ms. Chang spent three years as in-house legal counsel at a Nasdaq listed public technology company in San Francisco.


Ms. Chang currently serves on the firm’s Committee on Racial and Ethnic Diversity and on the hiring committee for Goodwin’s San Francisco office.


Daniel Figueredo is a Partner in Assurance, Head of BPM’s FinTech practice and Nonprofit Industry group leader. He has worked extensively with crypto currency, blockchain, loan accounting, impact investing, CDFIs, fair value and alternative investments, program-related investments, New Markets Tax Credits. As Leader of BPM’s FinTech practice, Daniel primarily works with crypto currency, blockchain, and marketplace/online lending. His clients crypto/blockchain clients include crypto hedge funds, exchanges, wallets, and token generators. Daniel’s experience also includes other financial services institutions such as broker-dealers, investment banks, registered investment advisors (RIA), VC funds, mortgage pools, and hedge funds. Daniel serves on the Board of Governors of the Online Lending Policy Institute, one of the leading public policy organizations focused on responsible innovation in online lending. He is also a resource partner for the Center for Financial Services Innovation’s FinLab, and represents BPM as a founding member of the Accounting Blockchain Coalition.


Rob Fore is a partner in Goodwin's Private Investment Funds group. With over twenty years of experience in the field of fund formation and operations, Mr. Fore advises venture capital funds, buyout funds, funds-of-funds and other private equity funds and their management companies in connection with structuring, formation and operations. He also represents institutional investors in venture capital and private equity funds. Over the course of his career, Mr. Fore has participated in the formation of over 400 domestic and non-U.S. funds, including numerous funds focused on the cryptocurrency sector.


Mr. Fore's practice also includes representing venture capital funds and private equity funds in their investment activities and has extensive experience in venture capital financings. He also has experience with limited partnerships, limited liability companies, joint ventures, private placements and mergers and acquisitions.
